01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

On the 5 floor of a building near the east exit of Shinjuku Station, Sendai Gyutan to Yakitori Yutan Shinjuku Sanchome-ten offers a wide range of dishes to enjoy with drinks, from generous beef-tongue plates to skewers and oden. The signature thick-cut Sendai beef tongue is surprisingly tender for such a substantial cut, with juicy, rich flavour that comes through with every bite. For something easier to share, try a chargrilled thick-cut beef-tongue skewer, or pair your drinks with the lighter beef-tongue tataki or beef-tongue sushi.

Hakata-style oden simmered slowly in clear flying fish dashi is another favourite alongside the beef tongue. Hand-prepared daikon, konjac, egg and chikuwa absorb the broth right through, making for comforting bites between cold beers or highballs. The charcoal-grilled yakitori selection includes classics such as negima, chicken wings and liver, while vegetable-wrapped skewers—like crisp lettuce wrapped in rich pork—offer plenty of choice for groups with different tastes.

Drinks range from draft and bottled The Malt's beer to highballs made with Kakubin or Chita, fruit-forward sours, and Japanese sake including Ichinokura and Kubota Senju. To finish, the beef-tongue fried rice is a popular choice: the savoury meat and fragrant black pepper flavour the rice throughout. Private rooms and partitioned table seating are available, making the restaurant a practical choice for a relaxed gathering or dinner with friends.
